Editorial styles
When you submit a job to create_job or create_job_from_file, the edit_style parameter selects the editorial style Edifix applies when restructuring references.
You can retrieve the live list of available styles by calling GET /get_edit_styles. The response maps human-readable display names to the short codes you send. The supported editorial style codes are listed below:
When edit_style is required
edit_styleis required whenstylesheet_contentsis omitted. A blank or unrecognised value returns error0016.edit_styleis ignored whenstylesheet_contentsis provided. In that case the job is processed against the supplied custom stylesheet and itsedit_styleis recorded asCustom(the API echoescustomin job responses). See Stylesheet contents.

Special-purpose options
These two options exist for integration with reference managers and for linking references to external databases only.
RIS and CiteExport: Reference-manager export
| Display name | Code |
|---|---|
| RIS | RIS |
| (Citation Manager Export Format) | CiteExport |
RIS and CiteExport both produce output suitable for import into a reference manager such as EndNote, Mendeley, or Zotero. Unlike the editorial styles, these options do not re-style references. Edifix still identifies each element of each reference and can link and correct references with PubMed and Crossref data, but Edifix preserves the original element order and content. The intent is to retain all source information so you can export the results as .ris without data loss.
NULL (No format)
| Display name | Code |
|---|---|
| (No Format) | NULL |
NULL (display name "No Format") parses references and applies linking without restructuring or correcting reference content. Use it when:
- You need structured JATS XML of your references (with or without links) with the original wording unchanged (for example, for post-publication content).
- You want DOI or PMID links added to your references without changing any other content.
When you select NULL, Edifix links references to PubMed and Crossref, but makes no other corrections to your reference text.
