Configure and manage settings in Typefi Orion Compass
Typefi Orion Compass is a self-service admin portal. Settings can be managed or configured by a user assigned the Manage Configuration privilege for Orion. This is typically a Typefi administrator or customer administrator for cloud deployments, or an on-premises local administrator for Typefi Workgroup or Desktop installations.
Sign in to Typefi Orion Compass
- Sign in to https://orion.typefi.net with admin credentials.
- Once signed in, select the app switcher (9-dot menu) in the top-right corner, then select Typefi Orion.

Existing Configurations
You can manage your organisation's existing configurations by clicking the Edit button. To add a configuration, click the New Configuration button. A Configuration Options page will open.

Configuration options
The Configuration Options page allows you to choose the type of settings you want to configure.
- Global Settings: Configure settings that apply to all publications.
- Publication Settings: Configure settings specific to individual publications.

Global settings

You can manage and configure the following global settings that will apply to all publications:
- Article Type
- Document Metadata
- Style Configuration
- Cleanup
- SmartReplace
- Advanced Workflows
- Citations
- SmartReferences
- Export to XML
Article Type
Lists of imported article types. These article types are not editable.
Document Metadata
Customise the document metadata labels and values that appear in the Metadata dialog in Typefi Orion for Microsoft Word.

Click and drag the three-line icon (located to the left of the label name) to reorder the field or field groups.
Click + Add to open an Add Document Metadata Field dialog. You can select to add a single field or create a field group. Enter the desired field names, labels, and values, and select the type.

Style Configuration
Click Style Configuration to manage how your paragraph styles appear in the Paragraph Styles palette in Orion for Word (Word → Orion ribbon → Document → Styles).

All styles configured in Typefi Orion Compass will be applied to your document when you attach your publication in Typefi Orion for Word.
Style Configuration options
- All Styles: Manage all available paragraph styles. Click All styles to view a list of default JATS styles. Note: Styles cannot be added in this view; to add styles, you must first edit the Style template.
- Style Sets: Group related paragraph styles into reusable sets that are handled by different Orion processes.
- Style Groups: Organize the paragraph styles into groups of styles. Each group of styles will display as tabs when you open the Orion Paragraph Styles palette in Orion for Word (Word → Orion ribbon → Document → Styles).

- Style Template: Define a template (
.dotx) to apply styles in Orion for Word.
Cleanup
Manage which settings appear by default in the Cleanup dialog of the Typefi Orion for Word ribbon (Word → Orion ribbon → Document → Cleanup).

SmartReplace
Manage your SmartReplace rules by adding your Typefi workflows that convert your AutoRedact dictionaries to SmartReplace rules.

To add a workflow
- Click the Add Workflow button. This will open a Choose Workflow dialog.
- Browse the files in Typefi Filestore and select a workflow.
- Click Select to add the desired workflow.
- Click Save.
The workflow(s) will now appear in the SmartReplace dropdown in the Typefi Orion for Word ribbon.
Advanced Workflows
Manage advanced workflows that help you edit, validate, and post-process your documents.

To add a workflow
- Click the Add Workflow button. This will open a Choose Workflow dialog.
- Browse the files in Typefi Filestore and select a workflow.
- Click Select to add the desired workflow.
- Click Save.
Citations
You can select and manage your citation format preferences. It automatically applies your selections to both in-text citations and the full bibliography.

Citation fields and descriptions

| Citation range dash | Enter your preferred citation range dash, for example a hyphen (-) or an en dash (–) |
| Citation order | Snaking citation order through main text and called-out objects: The order should go through the text and when you hit a citation, for example Table 1, you go to the actual table itself and references in the table will be numbered next. Then, continue ordering through the main text. |
| Space before the citations | Choose how you want to handle spaces that come before citations. Select an option from the dropdown. Options:

| Allow baseline prefixed citations in superscript styles | Enables the standard superscript format for citations attached to content, (for example: results observed6-8), but overrides this for numbers that are part of an explicit textual phrase (for example, in See Reference 4). Example format: results are clear5 (See Reference 4). This option is selected by default. |
| Report author name casing mismatches | Adds a comment in the document to flag when an author's name does not match the database record. This option is selected by default. |
| Support unnumbered single objects | Enables support for unnumbered citation references (for example, See Figure). This option is deselected by default. |

SmartReferences
Select your preferred Edifix style from the dropdown. Then, click Save. Edifix will then automatically correct, link, and format your references, using Crossref and PubMed to ensure accuracy, linking, and adherence to the chosen style.

- The reference style is fixed to
Vancouver/ICMJE - The ability to customise your data sources by selecting/deselecting CrossRef and Pubmed will be available in a future release.
Export to XML
Click Export to XML to manage how your document is exported in Typefi Orion for Microsoft Word (Word → Orion ribbon → Output → Export to XML).

All styles configured in Typefi Orion Compass will be applied to your document when you attach your publication in Typefi Orion for Word.
Export to XML configuration options:
- Style mapping: Map custom styles to existing All Styles (Global settings → Style Configuration → All Styles)
- Metadata mapping: Map custom Document metadata fields to Existing Document metadata fields (Global settings → Document Metadata).
- Configure workflows: Add workflows to be applied during XML export in Typefi Orion for Microsoft Word (Word → Orion ribbon → Output → Export to XML).
Publication settings

In Publication Settings, you can configure settings specific to your organisation's individual publications.
Publications
- Click + New Publication to add one or more publications to appear in the Publication dialog in Typefi Orion for Microsoft Word
- Click Edit (to the right of the publication's name) to customise the settings for that specific publication.
You can edit the following for each publication:
- Publication Metadata
- Publisher*
- Publication name*
- Journal ID*
- Journal abbreviation*
- Print ISSN
- Electronic ISSN (*Required fields)
- Document Metadata
- Customise the Document Metadata for a specific publication.
- Style Configuration
- Customise the paragraph style configuration for a specific publication.
