Working with OneDrive or SharePoint files in Typefi Orion
SmartReplace, Advanced Workflows, and Export to XML fail when run on a document attached from OneDrive or SharePoint.
Why this happens
Files stored in OneDrive or SharePoint are continuously synced in the background, which can cause Orion processes like SmartReplace, Advanced Workflows, and Export to XML to fail. Running SmartReplace and Advanced Workflows on a synced file will fail with the error "The given path's format is not supported," while Export to XML will fail with "There are multiple root elements."
Workaround
To prevent Orion processes from failing while you work on a document, save a local copy before attaching a publication.
To save a local copy:
- Copy your document to any local folder that isn't synced. If it's helpful, you can create a dedicated folder for this—for example,
C:\Users\<your name>\Orion documents.
TIP
To check whether a folder syncs, open it in File Explorer and look at the address bar. If it shows something like OneDrive - [Company Name], the folder syncs.
- Open the copied file in Microsoft Word.
- In the Word ribbon, select the Orion tab.
- Attach your publication and continue working as usual.
Will Typefi Orion be compatible with OneDrive or SharePoint in the future?
Typefi Orion will be compatible with OneDrive and SharePoint later this year, so you'll be able to work directly with cloud-synced documents without needing to save a local copy first.
