Typefi Orion Compass 1.3

Released 4 June 2026
Requires Typefi Server 8.23 or later
Requires Typefi Orion for Microsoft Word 1.4 or later

Introducing SmartReferences 2.0

🎉 SmartReferences is now powered by the new SmartRefs plug-in. Instead of selecting a reference style in Compass, you can now configure SmartReferences by adding a SmartReferences workflow to Global Settings → SmartReferences. For setup instructions, see Set up SmartReferences in Typefi Orion Compass.

Improvements

  • Publication metadata labels are now editable in both JATS and BITS configurations.

Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where styles could not be added to existing or newly created style sets.
  • Fixed an issue where importing a CSV file with empty columns did not show an error message.

Typefi Orion Compass 1.2

Released 7 May 2026
Requires Typefi Server 8.22 or later

Introducing BITS support

🎉 Orion Compass now supports BITS (Book Interchange Tag Suite) XML configurations alongside the existing JATS (Journal Article Tag Suite) support.

The New Configuration wizard now includes a BITS configuration type selection, and a new Document Types page that lists the document types available for a BITS publication. When you import an eXtyles configuration, Compass now shows the configuration type dropdown so you can set the correct XML format (JATS or BITS) during import. For more information, see Import your configuration in Orion Compass.

Improvements

  • You are now prompted to save or discard unsaved changes when navigating away from any settings page. A Cancel option lets you return to the page and continue editing.

Typefi Orion Compass 1.1

Released 24 April 2026
Requires Typefi Server 8.21 or later

Introducing Insert Tags

🎉 Insert Tags is now available! Eighteen default tags are included, covering reference types, figures, figure placement, and specific use. Tags are ready for editors to use in Typefi Orion for Microsoft Word v1.2. Administrators can add, reorder, edit, and delete them in Global Settings → Insert Tags. See Manage Insert Tags for details.

Improvements

  • Tables across all configuration areas now have consistent column headings and styling, improving the overall experience in the Orion Compass interface.
  • An incomplete configuration icon (!) now appears next to SmartReplace, Advanced Workflows, Export to XML, and SmartReferences until setup is complete.
  • Added Table Footnote and Article Title to the default collection of style sets (Style Configuration → Style Sets).
  • When adding or editing styles in a Style Group, style names are now selected from a searchable list of available styles in All Styles.
  • Numerous user interface improvements, including improved tooltips for license types, a processing indicator during CSV file uploads, and corrected button alignment in Document Metadata.

Fixes

  • Orion Compass no longer displays a licensing error when you switch between customer configurations.
  • The New Configuration wizard no longer closes when you click outside of it.
  • Selecting, cancelling, and deleting SUI files in Style ConfigurationStyle Groups now works correctly after importing an eXtyles configuration.
  • A Required Entries row no longer appears incorrectly in Document Metadata after importing an eXtyles configuration.
  • Drag-and-drop reordering now works correctly when only two workflows are configured.
  • Export to XML
    • Fixed an issue that caused duplicate Map to values in Metadata Mapping. A warning now appears if the same value is entered in more than one mapping.
